Paddle Boarding in the Dutch Caribbean

Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao or also known under the name of ABC islands are three islands located in the Caribbean Sea that look exactly like paradise. Clean waters, long beaches with fine sand and sunny weather is how you could describe these islands. Also, these are the ideal place for people who love watersports, such as surfing, snorkeling, paddle boarding or kiting.

Paddle boarding is a type of water sport which involves lying, kneeling or standing on a paddle board. The participant can either be propelled by a swimming motion or he can stand up straight on a paddle board. The stand-up paddle boarding is some hybrid sport between surfing and paddling. In fewer words, you sit on a surfing board while helping yourself move forward with a paddle. The sport comes from Hawaii, where it was first tried out.

On the ABC islands, there are many places that rent boarding paddles or places where you can be guided if this is the very first time you try board paddling.

Aruba

Aruba Surf and Paddle School is one of the best paddling schools on the island. The school has more than 20 years of experience, making the sport a new and unique, but rather safe experience. As paddling is one of the fastest growing water sports in Aruba, this school’s main goal is to make it a fun and safe sport to be practiced. This is why they have acquired some of the most high-quality paddle boards, which not only guarantee the participant’s safety but also assures anyone of a fun experience. The boards here are easy to use and they have great stability.

You can rent a paddle board and go on an adventure by yourself, or you can hire an instructor to guide you. For only $25 you can rent a board for an hour. For group lessons, the price goes up to $60 per person. For a semi-private lesson is $75, for a private lesson $95, which is the same price for a tour.

Bonaire

Bonaire Windsurf Place is one of the greatest places on the island. It was first opened back in 1987 and has been on the market ever since. The Windsurf Place is a locally owned shop, which also offers paddle boarding rentals and also lessons for beginners who are not comfortable with going alone. In 2000 this place was voted to be the top place where you could sharpen your surfing skills. If you are part of a group, you will pay $50. For a private lesson of 1 hour, you will pay 80$, for 3 hours $215 and 5 hours $350.

Curacao

SUP Curacao is a great place where you can learn more about paddle boarding, with a guide or alone. If you want to rent a board for 3 hours you will pay $40. If you want a private lesson, you will pay $50 and for a guided tour, three people will pay $150.

Paddle boarding is a sport, which can offer you a unique and full of adrenaline experience. If you are in the market for some adventure, check it out.
